We departed an hour later than we had planned because I slept through my first alarm. Oops. Our first stop was for lunch at Whataburger in Alvarado just south of Fort Worth, TX. As we were loading back up in the car, a teenager approached us and asked if our car was “one of those new fast electric cars.” His father was on his heels and piped right in and asked “Will it drive you around while you take a nap?” The mom was on dad’s heels and they all peered into our car and I heard “Ohhh!!! Look at that screen!” I’ve never had anyone stop and admire our Honda Odyssey. C’mon, you know those sliding doors are pretty sweet.
Most of the supercharging stops were fun, infinitely better than gas stations. My favorite supercharging station was the one in Rayzor Ranch Shopping Center in Denton, TX. While we charged the car, we walked into Petco and immediately exited. What were we thinking?! Never go into a pet store with your children to “browse”. No! We can’t adopt the pretty kitty. For future reference: eateries nearby are Whataburger, Chipotle and a Mexican restaurant. AND do not enter Petco unless you want sad children.
My least favorite supercharging station was the one in Perry, KS. It is situated next to an old gas station/truck stop that feels like a sauna when you walk inside. There is a Subway located inside and the gas station attendees are polite. I had a hard time with the muggy moldy smell inside the place.
During the last 2 hours of our roadtrip, we narrowly missed 3 deer that decided to dart in front of us. Thanks to the maneuverability of the Model 3 and hubby’s finely tuned gaming skills, we made it to our destination with only bug carcasses on the car.
